Amazon Prime Members Save 10% at Whole Foods

Did you know your Amazon Prime membership has more perks than two day shipping? In addition to free videos, photo storage, music, or being on a first name basis with every one of your mail, UPS, and FedEx delivery people (an unspoken joy of my Prime addiction), Amazon just announced Prime members will save 10% on sale items at Whole Foods.

It’s a little unclear why Amazon decided to only discount the already on sale items each week, but who am I to look a gift coupon in the mouth? The program is available right now in Florida, but will be rolling out to all stores sometime this summer. We checked it out, and it’s a simple way to save while you shop. All you have to do download the Whole Foods app and scan the QR code at checkout. The app clearly displays the items on sale at your local Whole Foods, so it’s easy to plan your shopping trip and see where you can save even more.

But wait, there’s more! As an added bonus for Prime members, select cities are also offering free 2-hour delivery. I live in New York City, aka—the land where all things are delivered directly to your door. If you’ve never experienced the joy of having someone else lug groceries around town for you, you’re going to want to get in on this. It’s magical.

Finally, if you have the Amazon credit card, you can get up to 5% back at Whole Foods and Amazon.com. The moral of the story here? Amazon is poised to take over the world, and is kindly bestowing extra discounts on all the little people like you and me. I’m not mad about it.

If you aren’t an Amazon Prime member, you can sign up here (they even have a free 30-day trial option). Learn more about the Amazon discounts at Whole Foods here.

6 Vacation Supplies You Shouldn’t Pack

The school year is winding down, and Elsa finally let go of this year’s eternal winter, which can only mean one thing—summer vacation is coming!

Independence Day Summer GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Summer vacation means summer vacationing, but I think we can all agree that packing is the worst part of traveling. Packing for an overnight trip or a week seems to be equally terrible. If you’re a mom, it’s even worse because you’re responsible for packing ALL. THE. PEOPLE.

I recently vacationed with some friends and their kids, and they taught me something that blew my mind. Instead of packing all the nitty gritty vacation supplies that weigh down your suitcase or make it necessary to check (hello, extra baggage fees), they made Amazon do the work for them and shipped stuff directly to their hotel. Genius.

Stacks of Amazon Boxes

The Today’s Mama Editorial Team put their heads together, and came up with six vacation supplies you shouldn’t pack. Instead, you can ship these bad boys directly to your destination. I’ve made it even easier by linking directly to some of our favs. Just click, add to cart, ship directly to your hotel, Airbnb, or relative’s house, and you’re done. At the end of your trip you won’t feel guilty leaving these goods behind. Or you can pack them home if you have room. The choice is yours. The world is your oyster. And I can guarantee this will make your vacation at least 9.7% more enjoyable.

Baby Supplies

For being so tiny, babies require a lot of stuff. A lot of stuff that takes up a lot of room. Don’t waste precious cargo space with diapers, wipes, formula, swim diapers, or pull ups. You will use most of that stuff completely up on your trip anyway. Pack only what you need for your travel time, and ship the rest to your destination.

Beach, Pool, and Other Gear

I’m just thawing out from winter, so I can’t think of a vacation destination that doesn’t involve a beach, pool, or the blazing sun. Pack these things for a trip where the sun shines: Sunscreen spray, face sunscreen stick, and because there’s a 99% chance I will mis-apply sunscreen on myself…after sun gel. You may also want floaties, goggles, sand toys, and a beach bag. If you’re headed somewhere wet, don’t forget the ponchos.

Toiletries and Medicine

This is the stuff I hate packing most of all. It’s all the necessities, and the “just in case” stuff you will inevitably need if it’s not on hand.

Grab a toiletry kit for women or toiletry kit for men to get all of the necessities like shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, etc. Or at the very least, send some disposable razors to your destination.

I heard about pre-pasted toothbrushes awhile ago, and they seem perfect for vacation. Use them once and toss them out. No little tubes or bulky toothbrush holders. Grab a 36 count pack or 144 count pack.

You don’t have to pack your entire medicine cabinet, but it is nice to have Infant Tylenol, Children’s Motrin, Zarbee’s Children’s Cough or Baby Cough medicine, Advil travel packs, allergy medicine for adults and for kids, and a first aid kit on hand, depending on what you think you’ll encounter on your trip.

Food and Snacks

Why does everyone want to eat all the time? Don’t they know you’re on vacation too?!?! Sure, it’s great to eat out, but doing that for every meal can get pricey. Stock up on some basic snacks and treats like goldfish crackers, fruit snacks, granola bars, or cracker snack packs, or even bottled water. If you’re gluten free, check out these specialty snacks.

If you have space to cook, order your groceries online from Walmart. They will gather your order and even load it in your car. That means you have more time to enjoy your vacation.

Kid’s Entertainment

In a perfect world, kids would stay entertained with the vacation itself, but in reality, you may need some tricks up your sleeve. If you think you’ll need to entertain some kids, ship sidewalk chalk, bubbles, crayon and coloring book sets, or activity books like this one or this one, or this fun kit that’s both a craft and a game.

More than Vacation Supplies: Souvenirs, Birthday, and Holiday Gifts

Here’s a pro-tip for you. If you’re headed to Disney, or any other theme park or major attraction, don’t buy your souvenirs at the park. You can save a bundle by getting them on Amazon and having them shipped to you. Things like this Mickey Mouse plush, Minnie Mouse plush, Minnie Mouse headband, Mickey Mouse hat, Disney lanyard, or Disney pins will cost way less when you buy them online instead of at the park.

If you’re vacationing for a child’s birthday, or over Christmas, Easter, or another holiday, Amazon has you covered with toys and games for every age.

That’s our list of ship, don’t pack vacation supplies. Did we miss anything? What would you ship?

(Also, I should probably note that if you’re not already an Amazon Prime member, you should be. There are so many benefits. Sign up today here.)

The I-Have-To-Get-Them-Something Gift List

We all have those certain gifts that are required of us each year. You know, the ones we have to buy but really don’t want to spend a lot of time or money?  We all have a few of them whether it’s our I-Don’t-Really-Know-You-But-Live-By-You-Neighbors, teachers, church friends, co-workers, or mailman. We still want to to say “I’m thinking of you”… but are sick of buying the same candle and hand soap. Here is your must-buy gift list for all those presents you are obligated to give (but want it to be something nice!).

This post is not sponsored. These are items that myself and other TodaysMama editors really love and are giving out to our friends!

neighbor gift list

1. SUCCULENTS

These sweet, precious and unique collection of 20 can be the start to quite a few gifts. Buy an adorable pot (or don’t) and you’re all set!

2. TUMBLERS

Real cacti not their thing? Buy an adorable tumbler like these cactus double wall 24 oz tumbler. I know I can always use an extra lid/straw drink option in my house.

3. HOMEMADE GINGERBREAD CARAMELS

This fantastic recipe from Martha Stewart is a great option for all those neighbor gifts.  It makes a million caramels in just one batch and the gingerbread flavor makes it unique enough they won’t get bored from “just another holiday caramel”.

4. PERSONALIZED TEACHER BANGLE BRACELET

Teachers have come to expect gift cards for Christmas. I’m sure they don’t mind, but if you want to break out of the norm, try these bangled bracelets. You can personalize your appreciation. I love their simplicity and daintiness.

5. REDBOX NIGHT (PRE-PURCHASED PROMO CODES)

One of my favorite gifts given to me from a neighbor was a movie night on them. They provided a Redbox promo code and a microwave popcorn and/or 2-liter of soda for a fun family date night. I loved this idea because it was so simple and something I would have never thought of — and of COURSE it was getting used! Free movie and treats?! Yes, please!

Buy Promo Codes Online HERE!

(TIP: Email the purchased codes to yourself so you can hand them out using your own design and gift tag!)

6. MOVIE THEATER TICKETS

Know someone who would rather hit the movie theater?  You can buy gift cards to most movie theater companies at your local grocer (look for their gift card section) or even online.

7. WORDS OF INSPIRATION (PRINTABLES)

A sweet thought can go a long way. Share these beautiful words with your friends. And it is SO easy! Find a cute frame, download, print and you’re done!

Download Printables HERE!

8. TRADER JOE’S BODY BUTTER (Only $4.99!!)

We are IN LOVE with Trader Joe’s body butter. And we are even more in love with the price. You can’t beat $4.99 for a product that you actually buy and use for yourself. Don’t trick yourself in to buying this online because you will be paying WAY more than necessary. You have to hit up your local Trader Joe’s (or bribe a friend that lives close to one) to fetch these beauties for $4.99 each.

Find a local Trader Joe’s HERE!

Do you have a favorite obligatory gift? Please share your ideas below! 10 bonus friend points if you link to the product…because you know…I’m lazy.

Want Alexa to do your laundry? Now she can!

Alexa can tell you what the weather will be, play your favorite song, schedule calendar events, and now she’ll be able to do your laundry!

Sears just recently signed a deal with Amazon and announced they plan to sell Kenmore-branded appliances on Amazon.com.  Sears also said Kenmore Smart appliances will be integrated with Amazon’s Alexa platform.

“The launch of Kenmore products on Amazon.com will significantly expand the distribution and availability of the Kenmore brand in the U.S.,” Sears CEO Eddie Lampert said in a statement.

Sears said a new “Kenmore Smart” skill for Amazon Alexa will allow customers to control their appliances — changing the temperature on an air conditioner without leaving the sofa, for example. It will be like telling your kids to do the dishes, but now it will actually get done.  Can you imagine??  I wonder if she can yell at me once it’s done and then offer me words of encouragement as I prep dinner.

“Voice is a natural interface for the smart home, so we’re thrilled that customers can now simply ask Alexa to interact with their Kenmore Smart appliances,” said Charlie Kindel, Director of Alexa Smart Home. “We’re excited that Kenmore has added Alexa functionality to these products and we think customers will love the convenience of cooling their home, starting their laundry, and more, using only their voice.”

Alexa-enabled appliances may be the start to robots taking over the world, but if they can figure out a way to clean my boys’ bathroom and fold all my laundry, I’ll gladly give up all control.  We just know the world is truly coming to an end when even robots won’t scrub pee off the bathroom floor molding.

Do You Have Free Amazon Credits You Don’t Know About? Check Here To Find Out!

FREE AMAZON CREDITS FOR YOU, THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!

You probably didn’t know that Amazon, Barnes and Noble and other e-book retailers were part of a massive class action lawsuit judgement reached against Apple last year. If you’ve purchased an e-book from any of these retailers, odds are you’ve got some credits you maybe didn’t know about just WAITING for you to claim them.

If you bought an e-book online between the years of 2010 and 2012 you likely qualify!

But you better hurry, they expire on Saturday, June 24th at 12 am PST!!

Here’s how to check:

  • Visit THIS PAGE on Amazon and click on the “Information For 2016 Apple e-books Antitrust Settlement”, if you’re not signed in already you’ll be asked to do that
  • If you have any free Amazon credits available, the balance will show as such. You may well have possibly spent the credits in the past year unknowingly.
  • If you’ve used another email address in prior years for you linked Amazon account, you might want to check under that address as well. Some people have discovered credits waiting for them this way.
  • USE YOUR CREDITS ON SOME DANG EBOOKS!

Amazon is the most accessible way to find these free credits and the most likely place you’ll find them. You can check Barnes & Noble too by clicking on THIS LINK, but the process is more complicated.

Basically, Apple tried to break into the e-book biz since Amazon Kindle held kind of a monopoly on the whole thing. Steve Jobs (RIP) sent some of his top minions to NYC to try and woo the major publishing houses to Apple’s platform by letting them set their own prices and agreed to only take a 30% cut. The catch was that Apple didn’t let those publishers sell anywhere else (Amazon, Barnes & Noble) for less. So, overnight prices on those other platforms jumped up quite a lot. The Justice Department and state attorney generals got involved over these inflated e-book prices and Apple got dinged to the tune of $400 million as part of a massive settlement.

This judgement has been around for almost a year so there’s a good chance you may well have spent credits you didn’t even know had already been applied to your account, so don’t feel gipped if you don’t see a balance waiting.

Make sure you check any additional Amazon accounts you may have had, give Amazon customer service a call if you run into any problems: 1-888-280-4331.

Good luck!!

Amazon Is Hiring 5,000 Work From Home Positions

Want to work from home? Amazon might be the right place for you! Amazon.com is hiring 5000 part- time work from home workers for it’s Virtual Customer Service program. Perfect job for a stay at home parent? Maybe . . . especially if it comes with a discount!

Amazon is hiring 5000 work from home jobs and 30,000 in total over the next year. Find out how how much they pay, benefits, and how to apply HERE!

“There are lots of people who want or need a flexible job—whether they’re a military spouse, a college student, or a parent—and we’re happy to empower these talented people no matter where they happen to live,” said Tom Weiland, Amazon Vice President for Worldwide Customer Service.

Not ready yet? You’ll have more chances. “Virtual Customer Service jobs are part of Amazon’s plan to hire 30,000 part-time roles in the U.S. over the next year.”

Military Veterans and Spouses

Amazon is looking to hire 25,000 military veterans and spouses to over the next five years – and the military is happy about that.

“Amazon’s commitment and taking an intentional step around military spouse employment truly shows that they do understand the challenges that the community faces and that they can be a part of the solution,” said Kylee Durant, USO Vice President for Transition Technology and Innovation Programs as well as a military spouse. “To have an innovator like Amazon recognize the need – the deep need – that military spouses have for employment says to me they are a catalyst for greater societal change in this country.”

Amazon Benefits

“…life and disability insurance, dental and vision insurance with premiums paid in full by Amazon, and funding towards medical insurance,” along with the company’s Career Choice program, which “pre-pays 95 percent of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a future career at Amazon.” (see full press release)

How To Apply At Amazon.com

You can go through the hiring process HERE

How much does it pay? From the job listings we could find it looks like the nationwide pay rate is $10.00 per hour. No one is getting rich quite yet, but it’s a start! (And I’m always happy when people don’t outsource these jobs overseas!)

Moral of the Story

If you want to stay in your stretchy pants, not worry too much about the pile of legos in your office, and would love to build your work schedule around nap time, this might be the right job for you!
