Minion Chocolate Dipped Cookies

This post is in partnership with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

One of my go-to holiday gifts for friends and neighbors are my favorite movies—added bonus when I can combine the holiday gift with something sweet and delicious!

Despicable Me 3, Minions, Kids Movies

PICTURE THIS:

A busy family…wrapping up homework and dinner dishes…when they hear a knock on the door. Someone (probably Mom) groans, “Uh. What now?” They open the door, expecting to hear about the benefits of “going solar” but instead there you stand, gift basket in hand. A gift basket that holds Despicable Me 3, the hilarious and heartwarming family-friendly movie full of characters we all love (Gru, his wife Lucy, their three adorable daughters—Margo, Edith and Agnes—and the Minions) AND the cutest little Minion cookies you ever did see.

BOOM.

You just made their night.

Because everyone will enjoy the #1 animated comedy of the year, Despicable Me 3 Special Edition (available now on Blu-ray & DVD) that includes an all-new mini movie, Minion Moments, and more! Plus, if you purchase your copy at Walmart, it includes and exclusive gift set with a super soft, plush Minion backpack—but only for a limited time!

Want to know how to make those adorable Minion Chocolate Dipped Cookies? Here’s everything you need to know.

Despicable Me 3, Minions, Kids Movies

A few tips and tricks that I’ve learned:

  • Don’t get “candy melts.”  They taste awful and oreos and nutter-butters dipped in white chocolate are delicious!
  • Make sure to use oil based food coloring-standard food coloring will ruin your chocolate and make it grainy.
  • Lay out ALL of your supplies beforehand-especially the wax paper!

How to make these darling Minion Cookies:

Supplies Needed:

Wax Paper

Nutter Butters

Oreos

White Chocolate Melts

Candy Food Coloring (different than standard food coloring, candy food coloring is oil based)

Googly Candy Eyes

Black Frosting or Black Food Coloring Marker

White Snow Sprinkles

Despicable Me 3, Minions, Kids Movies

Method:

Lay out Wax Paper.

Melt down melting chocolates according to instructions on packaging.  Split package into 3 bowls-one for white, one for yellow and one for blue.  Use oil based food coloring to color the yellow and blue white chocolate.

Dip Nutter Butters in the yellow chocolate first,  submerging only half of the cookie.  Add googly eyes before chocolate sets and refridgerate for 5-10 minutes until hardened.

Dip the other side of the Nutter-Butters in the blue chocolate and use a squeeze bottle or toothpick to add the blue chocolate overall straps.

Refrigerate cookies again to harden, 5-10 minutes.

Use the black frosting or food coloring marker to draw glasses straps, hair, mouths and overall details.

Dip additional cookies in remaining chocolate and then dip partially in snowy sprinkles.  Additional blue and white chocolate in a squeezy bottle can be used to draw patterns like snowflakes!

Enjoy!  This activity is so much fun for kids and grown-ups alike and anything that doesn’t turn out still tastes soooo good!

My Little Pony: The Movie and a Giveaway

My Little Pony was all the rage when I was a kid.

My grandma gave me my first My Little Pony for my sixth birthday. Its name was Baby Glory, and I was in love.

Retro My Little Pony

I was excited to see My Little Pony make a comeback, but I knew Ponies were back for good when I sat down on the NYC subway across from this guy:

My Little Pony Costume

I’ll likely see a few more of these characters this weekend as Ponydemonium (I should probably Trademark that phrase) is in full force with the release of My Little Pony: The Movie, in theaters October 6th. Have you seen this trailer yet?

My Little Pony: The Movie – Coming to theaters October 6!

A dark force threatens Ponyville, and the Mane 6 – Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Rarity – embark on an unforgettable journey beyond Equestria where they meet new friends and exciting challenges on a quest to use the magic of friendship to save their home.

I love it when big names get behind the mic for animated features, because it usually makes for a movie kids and adults can enjoy together. The Pony crew is voiced by an all-star cast, including Emily Blunt, Kristin Chenoweth, Liev Schreiber, Michael Peña, Sia, Taye Diggs, Uzo Aduba and Zoe Saldana. The movie features original music and songs performed by Sia, Diggs, Saldana, Chenoweth and Blunt.

Rock Dog Movie Premiere and a Giveaway

This post is sponsored by Lionsgate.

A few years ago my nephew visited and asked where I kept my dog. I told him I didn’t have one, and he quickly let me know I was wasting my adulthood. I think he was onto something, but until I move out of my “no dogs allowed” apartment building in Manhattan, I have to get my puppy fix (not to be confused with “puppy fixed,” because those are two VERY different things) elsewhere.

That’s why I’m looking forward to the February 24th release of Rock Dog. It’s a movie about a Tibetan Mastiff who finds a radio and leaves home to fulfill his dream of becoming a musician, but quickly sets in motion a series of unexpected events.

I’m such a sucker for movies that encourage kids to chase their dreams! Today’s Mama wants you to chase your dreams all the way to the theater. That’s why we’re giving away a Rock Dog movie prize pack that includes a $100 Visa gift card to see the film in theaters with your family, as well as a Rock Dog beanie, tambourine, and temporary tattoo.

Rock Dog Movie Giveaway

You’re sure to recognize and love the Rock Dog movie cast. Luke Wilson takes the lead, with Eddie Izzard, J.K. Simmons, Lewis Black, Kenan Thompson, Mae Whitman, Jorge Garcia, Matt Dillon, and Sam Elliott all lending their voices. I can’t wait to see them do their thing on the big screen on February 24th!

The SING Special Edition is Coming to Digital, DVD, and Blu-Ray in March

This post is in partnership with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment

If you and your kids loved watching SING in the theaters, then prepare yourself to get super excited for what I’m about to say. Are you ready? Ok, here goes . . . THE SING SPECIAL EDITION IS COMING OUT ON DIGITAL HD ON MARCH 3rd AND ON BLU-RAY AND DVD ON MARCH 21st!!!!!!!

SING Special Edition Digital, DVD, and Blu-Ray Release

I’m sorry, was I yelling? I’m kind of excited. Did you catch how I said “SING Special Edition?” Yeah, this isn’t just the same thing you saw on the big screen cut comin’ at ya. The special edition of this music-filled comedy will include over 60-minutes of bonus content and will incorporate three (YEAH, I SAID 3!) all-new entertaining mini movies featuring the cast from SING as well as an exclusive Tori Kelly music video and a variety of musical extras. That’s almost enough bonus content to equal a whole new movie in and of itself.

Before I get too carried away, I’ll tell you why we loved SING. I feel like the new trend in animated movies is to make them entertaining for both adults and kids. The Illumination studio made SING. That’s the same studio that brought us The Secret Life of Pets and the Despicable Me franchise. They’ve already proven they have the chops to be popular with kids (uh, seen a Minion anywhere lately?) and they’re quickly becoming a grown up favorite too. This movie was a Golden Globe nominee for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song. You’ll totally recognize ans sing along to the more than 65 hit songs in this movie, and you’ll love ‘Faith,’ a brand new song by the legendary Stevie Wonder (featuring Ariana Grande). He hasn’t made a song for a major film release in 25 years!

Check out this SING Special Edition trailer:

If that doesn’t make you laugh, then you should probably watch it again with your eyes open. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a movie that has as many A-list actors and artists. SING is truly a wonderful, funny, heartwarming film with great music and a fantastic cast. It stars Academy Award® winner† Matthew McConaughey as Buster Moon, an eternally optimistic koala who puts on the world’s greatest singing competition to save his crumbling theater; Academy Award® winner Reese Witherspoon as Rosita, an overworked and unappreciated mother of 25 piglets desperate to unleash her inner diva; Scarlett Johansson as Ash, a punk rock porcupine with a beautiful voice behind her prickly exterior; Taron Egerton as Johnny, a young gangster gorilla looking to break free of his family’s felonies; as well as Seth MacFarlane, John C. Reilly, and Grammy Award-nominated Tori Kelly.

Basically, SING takes all the best parts of a reality T.V. show—the stories of people uh, I mean, animals down on their luck, the crazy talented ones who don’t have any self-confidence, those trying to live up to their true selves, and those trying to rise above their surroundings—it subtracts the super drama, tears, and rose ceremonies, but leaves in a few crazies and a diva, just to keep things interesting.

We loved SING at our house, and can’t wait for the SING Special Edition to release. It may just be the musical comedy event of the year!
