Living Locurto Retreat Recap
I’m excited to share this recap of the Living Locurto Team Retreat. I hope you will enjoy seeing some behind the scenes of Living Locurto! I’ve also got a fun giveaway for you today. Be sure to scroll down to enter!!
For 10 years, I have done most of the content here at Living Locurto all on my own with some contributors adding content occasionally. I’m happy to make a change and now have a small team of fabulous women. We had a great time away at a lake near Dallas, Texas connecting, learning, fostering our creativity and planning.
Meet Pam, Naomi, Natalie and Annaliese. I’m so thrilled to have them on the Living Locurto team!!! You can learn more about each of them here. I’ll be sharing a lot of what we created for you over the next few months. You’re going to love it!
It’s been raining so much in Texas, I thought we would get rained out. But we had wonderful weather! I knew it would be fun when we were welcomed by a full rainbow!
I love planning retreats and the best way to start off a girls’ trip is with gifts! The first thing that arrived for me to take on our trip was some beautiful flower arrangements from AboutFlowers.com .
Did you know a new study done by the University of North Florida says that living with flowers significantly reduces daily stress? We filled our vacation retreat home with flowers and definitely let the stress float away!
Thanks to Gracious Bridal Design House, I had these fabulous personalized tote bags to fill with goodies for the team.
Read to the end to enter to win some of these fun goodies!!!
First, we checked out our lake house. Can you believe this HUGE shower?? HA! We had to get in for a photo.
Second, we said cheers to a great weekend with our new Goverre portable wine glasses. These are unique glasses that have a drink-through lid, be sure to check them out here. I plan to stock up for gifts!
Third, we pulled out goodies from our gift bags and got to tasting these fun adult treats from Original Jel Shots! They come in unique flavors such as banana and cinnamon. You can see all the flavors here. We decided the Blu-Razz (raspberry) was our favorite.
Another fun gift were sauces from Red Duck Foods, a small Portland based women-owned, company committed to making superior organic sauces. They’ve recently launched a new taco sauce with three fun flavors! I love supporting women-owned companies and really love these flavorful sauces. Be sure to look for them in your local market or order online here.
We also made this amazing cocktail that I will be sharing soon! It was super fun to photograph and taste test.
Since a few team members had never been to Dallas before, I made sure we took some time off to enjoy the Texas countryside and a fabulous dinner at a local winery. We also hit up a small town Whataburger, which is a MUST do when in Texas.
We had so much fun. I personally feel so energized and can’t wait to share more of the creative ideas we did at the retreat soon. Be on the lookout for a lot of fun content coming soon!!!

How to Live Your Best Life and Life of the Party Red Carpet Recap
I partner with Warner Bros Pictures and was invited to attend the world premiere for Life of the Party, a hilarious comedy starring Melissa McCarthy, in theaters May 11. No mom should miss this…it’s one of the funniest, sweetest movies ever! This was my first time being on the red carpet with movie stars and it was so exciting! I even got to hug Melissa McCarthy! She is the cutest thing ever and made me laugh so hard in a few scenes that I had tears streaming down my face.
Melissa McCarthy plays Deanna a longtime dedicated housewife who when her husband suddenly dumps her turns regret into re-set by going back to college. She goes to the same school as her daughter, who’s not entirely sold on the idea. Plunging headlong into the campus experience, she embraces freedom and fun on her own terms, eventually finding her true self.
A few more of my favorite cast members were Maya Rudolph, who is SO FUNNY and absolutely killed it in this movie. Julie Bowen, one of my favorite actresses and who I got to meet for a quick second on the red carpet, was perfection!
Luke Benward is adorably charming in this film! Everyone was swooning over this tall dark and handsome guy at the premiere.
With all of the screaming girls, I’m pretty sure we got to see the next Hollywood heartthrob up close! If you look closely you can see him in the background of our selfie from the movie premiere after party. This was about as close as I could get through the crowds. He is super cute!!!
We’re big fans of Debby Ryan and I loved her role as the mean girl. I wish I could rock a pants suit as well as her!
Even though Life of the Party is one of those classic funny movies that I will watch over and over, it is full of many great life lessons. The movie plot got me thinking about how being the life of the party can also mean living your best life.
Are you living your best life?
Here are three questions to ask yourself right now to help get you on the right path towards the life you have always wanted.
1. What are you saying yes to?
Take out a piece of paper and write down all of the things you have said yes to in the upcoming months. Are these things allowing you to live your best life, the one you always imagined having? Or are these things that you don’t really have to do, things you might not even want to do, but say yes to anyway because that is what you feel is expected of you?
Melissa McCarthy’s character, Deanna, was the person who gave her time to everyone around her and none for herself. She thought she was happy doing it at the time, but later looks back on her life and wished she had done things differently. So many of us can relate to being that person in many aspects of life. It’s a great reminder to say yes to more things that take you towards the path of the life you really want and that it’s okay to say no to things that don’t.
Saying no to many things in my life has allowed me to focus on growing my website which gives me opportunities like walking the red carpet with some amazing digital influencers and movie stars.
2. Why are you afraid?
In the movie, Deanna was afraid of speaking in public. One of the college girls was afraid she was choosing the wrong field of study. We all probably have something that holds us back from living our best life. What is that for you? Now ask yourself why are you afraid? Knowing why can significantly help you figure out a plan of action.
Years ago, if I was made to speak in front of a large group, I would sweat like crazy and have panic attacks. My fear stemmed from worry that I would choke and look ridiculous. I knew I wasn’t living my best life by being terrified of something that would not physically hurt me. If I messed up, it would only embarrass me for a short time, so I began watching all kinds of public speaking technique videos. I then forced myself to do more public speaking. After years of practice, now I can’t imagine ever feeling nervous to talk to a group! Over the past 5 years, I have gotten to speak to hundreds of people all over the country at numerous conferences. Think of all of the people I wouldn’t have met or inspired if I had let my fear hold me back!
Remember you are strong! I bet there are certainly a few fears you can also overcome to help you live your very best life.
3. When is the last time you did something just for you?
If you are a mom, you might not be able to remember when you did something just for you! It’s okay to schedule something onto your calendar with your name on it. Making time to do more of what you enjoy is an important part of living your best life.
After waking up at 4:30 am to travel home from the movie premiere, I was drop dead exhausted. Plus, I have to get ready for a trip to Florida in a few days for my daughter’s cheer competition. I could have easily canceled my plans made months ago to attend a concert with my girlfriends last night. The movie reminded me that making time for friends was an important part of living my best life. I not only found much joy from an evening spent with friends watching a fabulous performance, but got to carry my new clutch from the premiere!
Plan to do some things just for you and add “watch Life of the Party” to your list! I promise you will laugh out loud and maybe it will also inspire you to live your best life.
Cute Printable To Do Lists to help you stay focused in a fun way! Time management tips and hand drawn illustrations with an 80’s sticker vibe.
Printable To Do Lists to Help You Focus on Getting Five Things Done!
I love to draw and excited to share my latest doodles that I turned into cute printable to do lists!
Lately, I’m having the hardest time getting things done, so I thought it was time to figure out a way to help me focus on my time management. With over 50,000 unread emails in my inbox (yes, you read that right!), I can get lost in my email for the entire day. The same thing happens when I get on Facebook or go to Target. You think you’ll just “pop in” for a few minutes, but end up there for hours! At least I’m that way…. I hope you have more will power than me. Ha!
Here is my thought, if I can get JUST FIVE things done in a day I feel like I accomplished something and my day did not go to waste. Of course, I’d love to do more than just five things on my to-do list, but I’m starting with the top five things that need to get done that day.
Simple Time Management Tips
This article states that we are truly focused for an average of only six hours per week. “You want to be really diligent with what you put into those hours,” David Rock, co-founder of the NeuroLeadership Institute and author of Your Brain at Work.
Rock said, most people focus best in the morning or late at night.
I think a few important tasks and several simple tasks written on a daily to-do list is much easier to achieve than a huge long list for the week.
Since I haven’t seen any time management printable to do lists focused on only doing five daily tasks, I made them. Drawing some cute doodles for them makes them more fun too!
Here is what I’m doing for my Daily To Do Lists:
1. MORNING: Complete 2 important things that absolutely need to get done.
This could be finish a deadline for work, pay bills, add money to my kids school lunch accounts, laundry, etc. These tasks are usually things that once I get done, I feel much better about my day.
2. AFTERNOON: Complete 1 task I enjoy doing.
I cook, style and photograph most of my recipes for the blog in the afternoons. Styling and creating things are my passion and this gives me a release.
3. EVENING: Complete 2 simple tasks.
Our evenings are mostly driving kids to sports practices, so I’m thrilled to to get at least two simple things done. I save these two spots on my to do list for mindless tasks. Things I just have to show up for and do without a lot of thinking involved! Simple tasks like editing photos for my blog (this is fun and simple for me), going to boot camp, vacuuming (it’s my favorite chore… no thinking needed!).
I’m really loving these cute to-do lists, and hope these ideas help you stay more focused throughout your day.

I’m addicted to Periscope! If you don’t know what it is, Periscope is a free app that lets you do live-stream broadcasts from anywhere. You can add it on your phone or iPad. It was purchased by Twitter in February of 2015 and was official launched on March 26, 2015.
I started “scoping” this summer when I went on my trip to Greece. It was so much fun sharing my travels via live-stream with friends and family! Since then, I have met some great new people, began a weekly Tip Tuesday segment, broadcasted my travels, shown behind the scenes looks of what happening at Living Locurto and shared fun DIY ideas.
I also just started something new that I’m super excited about called The Scope Movement! (#scopemovement) It’s coming soon, so be sure to follow me on Periscope at @LivingLocurto – you won’t miss our kick-off week!!
Periscope is completely LIVE! I love that there are no retakes, no fancy cameras or editing needed, nothing is perfect… it’s just what is happening at that exact moment and being able to interact with the broadcaster is pretty cool.
If you have a Twitter account, you can easily get on Periscope to watch and do your own broadcasts (aka scopes). Anytime a new social media channel comes out, I cringe because it’s just one more thing to learn. But, don’t worry about that, because I’ve got everything you need to know condensed in this post!
Should kids use Periscope?
I personally wouldn’t recommend letting your kids use this app, as it’s still new and I’m not sure there is a filter on adult content. Plus, there are often some creepy people who write nasty comments. My kids aren’t allowed to use any social media channels at all without me managing the account – so know that I’m a pretty conservative mom. But really, until Periscope works out the kinks, I would say to monitor your teens or just say no.
Download the App & Sign In.
The first step in using Periscope is to download it to your iOS or Android device. The first time you launch the app, you’ll be asked to sign in. You can sign in using your Twitter account or you can use your phone number.
Click the camera icon to start a broadcast. (aka a Scope)
Swipe down to stop a broadcast.
To Share a Scope:
- Android swipe up
- iPhone swipe from left to right
Tap the screen to give hearts.
You can do this in both a live broadcast and the replay. Hearts are a good thing to do to show support and lets the broadcaster know you are watching. When you do a broadcast for the first time, you will appreciate the hearts because sometimes it seems like you are talking to yourself.
Only live viewers can comment.
Commenters can follow and reply to each other by clicking the comment. A popup window will show up with options.
Replays expire after 24 hours.
You can choose who watches and comments on your scopes:
- Limit a broadcast to specific followers by clicking the lock icon before broadcasting.
- Limit who can comment by clicking the comment icon.
