What is the Dora movie about?

Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, nothing could prepare Dora (Isabela Moner) for her most dangerous adventure ever – High School.

Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (Jeffrey Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.

What a great movie to see before school starts up again. I can still sing a lot of the Dora songs. I wonder if they will be in the movie? Be sure to find out on August 9th!

What is a Freakshake?

A freakshake is basically a mega huge milkshake combining ice cream with candy, then stacking the top of the cup with high calorie desserts such as brownies, candy bars, cotton candy and often entire slices of cake. It’s said the freakshake trend started in Australia, but now basically everywhere! If you can eat the whole thing, you’re a dessert loving rock star! ha!

Easy Nutella French Toast recipe with creamy whipped topping! Nutella French Toast - Easy chocolate hazelnut and strawberry breakfast recipe.

My children love french toast. It is one of those breakfast options that seems like a lot of work, but really, it is simple and easy to make. And takes just as much time as pancakes! What can be better than combining Nutella, strawberries, french toast and whipped cream? It is a sure breakfast winner!

Nutella French Toast - Easy Breakfast Recipe by Divian Connors for LivingLocurto.com

You will need for Nutella French Toast:

  • Slices of bread (I used sliced french bread)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 2tbsp sugar
  • 1tbsp cinnamon
  • Nutella
  • Strawberries
  • Whipped Topping (softened)

Servings: 4 french toast sandwiches

Spread generous amount of Nutella onto 4 slices of bread. Top with remaining bread.

In bowl, combine eggs, milk, sugar and cinnamon, mix/blend well. You can add more milk for less egginess.

Nutella French Toast - Easy chocolate hazelnut and strawberry breakfast Recipe.

Coat both side with egg mixture, allowing it to sit for about a minute or two to soak in the egg mixture.  Let the excess mixture drip off of the bread.

In skillet, coat with nonstick cooking spray and turn heat on low.  I prefer to cook my french toast on low heat to reduce burning of the outside and to ensure that the bread is completely cooked and not soggy. Let cook on low for about 2 minutes, turn over to make sure it is cooking. Continue to turn over once every 3-4 minutes until both sides are golden brown.

Nutella French Toast - Easy chocolate hazelnut and strawberry breakfast Recipe.

Slice each sandwich and top with whipped topping or whipped cream and fresh berries. This would be a perfect Valentine breakfast.

QUICK TIP: To decorate your plate, place a spoonful of Nutella into a plastic sandwich bag. Squeeze into the corner of the bag and clip the tip of the corner with scissors. ‘Pipe’ your design onto the plate before putting on the french toast and berries.

Grandma Chunkie’s Chocolate Pie Recipe

This chocolate pie recipe is our family tradition thanks to my fun Great-Grandma Chunkie! I remember Grandma Chunkie as a fun little spit fire with pink tinted hair and always wearing a cute apron. I guess she was heavy as a child and that’s where the name came from. All my great-aunts and uncles had nicknames. One was even called Aunt No No.

I loved going to Grandma Chunkie’s house, because she was always baking something tasty. She grew up working in her family’s restaurant in Tulsa. She also let me play with all her jewelry (clip on earrings!) and make-up. I loved hearing stories of her travels and times when she dated a pro-wrestler… the kind like you see now on the WWF! Ha.

She would tell me crazy stories, like how you had to be careful traveling back when she was a girl because Indians would kidnap you. Or the time she and her brother ran away when they were really little. They tied themselves together so they wouldn’t get lost (or kidnapped by Indians) on the train. Who knows what was the truth? Ha!

Born in 1908 as Lily Maybell, Grandma Chunkie later changed her name to Lillian.

Grandma Chunkie was also a sister of Christ! When I would go on ski trips, she would pray on a cloth and make me put it in my pocket to keep me safe:-) In college, I would get these little prayer cloths in the mail every now and then.

This photo of Grandma Chunkie is probably from the 1940’s. I think she is alive and well in my daughter! I see a lot of Grandma Chunkie in my own little spit fire.

The best Chocolate Pie

Grandma Chunkie made THE best pies! Usually for our Thanksgiving dinners, we would have about three pumpkin pies along with banana, lemon and chocolate. I never liked pumpkin pie, so she always made me my own mini chocolate pie. A Thanksgiving tradition, I started with my kids. I’ve posted this recipe before, but in case you missed it, here it is again. Enjoy!!

Sinfully Good Better Than Sex Cake

If you’ve never tried a Better Than Sex Cake, then now is the time! A Better Than Sex Cake is basically a chocolate poke cake filled with caramel, topped with whipped cream and Heath candy bars. I love easy chocolate desserts and especially pretty bundt cakes, so made a version in my new bundt cake pan from Sur La Table! Because of the gooey filling, I wasn’t sure if the cake would hold up and come out of the bundt pan at all. I’m happy to report, it came out perfect and was super easy to make!

Drizzled with chocolate sauce, more caramel and Heath bits, this is one chocolate cake you won’t be able to resist!  Top it with homemade whipped cream and you’ll understand where the cake’s name came from! ha!

I was worried a poke cake wouldn’t work in a bundt pan, but it came out perfect with my new 6 cup Nordic Wear Anniversary Gold Bundt pan from Sur La Table! This is a smaller bundt pan than I usually use for my cakes and it’s the perfect size for a boxed cake mix. It turned out gorgeous! Find this bundt pan here.

Chocolate Better Than Sex Cake

Better Than Sex Cake is one chocolate cake you won’t be able to resist! A delicious bundt cake filled with caramel and topped with chocolate sauce, Heath toffee bits and homemade whipped cream, will soon become one of your favorite desserts!

Cake

  • 6 Cup Bundt Pan
  • Baking Spray
  • 1 box Devil’s food chocolate cake mix
  • 1 1/3 cups water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 3.9 oz box instant chocolate pudding
  • 1/2 cup caramel syrup
  • 1/4 cup canned sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup Heath English Toffee Bits
  • Chocolate Syrup for drizzling

Whipped Cream

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon  vanilla

Cake

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Grease all sides of your bundt pan well
  3. Beat cake mix, water, oil, eggs and pudding mix in large bowl and pour into pan. Make sure there is enough room for the cake to rise. Fill pan about 3/4 of the way full.

  4. Bake 35-45 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  5. Let cool for 5-10 minutes, then poke holes halfway into the cake with the end of a wooden spoon. Be careful not to poke holes all the way through the cake.

  6. Pour caramel syrup into the holes, let rest for a few minutes as it soaks into the cake.
  7. Pour condensed milk into the holes next.

  8. Let cool completely for about 5-10 minutes
  9. Place your cake platter upside down over the bottom of the cake pan and turn the pan over so the platter is now upright. The cake should gently slide out of the bundt pan onto the dish.

  10. Drizzle caramel and chocolate syrup over the top of the cake.

  11. Sprinkle the top with Heath bits.

Homemade Whipped Cream

  1. Add a large mixing bowl into the freezer and chill for 5-10 minutes.

  2. Remove bowl and add the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar and vanilla. Use a hand-held mixer and mix on low speed and increase to medium-high until fluffy and peaks form.

  3. Slice cake and serve with a large spoonful of fresh whipped cream sprinkled with more Heath bits and a drizzle of chocolate syrup.
