Buster Moon Pie Muddy Buddies

This post is in partnership with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment

Friday is movie night at our house. And it’s becoming a production. It starts with takeout—we rotate who gets to pick (because mediating the inevitable disagreement between two kiddos does not make for a happy Mama) and then we pile up on my bed and watch a movie (also picked by the lucky “featured” family member that week.)

My son has already picked out our movie for this week…

When we saw this in theaters it inspired MANY sing-and-dance performances by my children for the following weeks.

I’m expecting their love of this show and the songs to evolve into downright obsession.

This movie was so sweet and so fun and warmed my mom heart so much with its messages—be brave, be yourself, never give up—it’s the trifecta of inspirational stories!

I guess I’m pretty excited for Friday night too.

You can pick up your copy of the Sing Special Edition and giggle through three new mini movies and a bunch of musical extras. For the love of pete, this movie has over 65 songs in it! Plus a new song by Stevie Wonder (featuring Ariana Grande.)

You can also win a copy from us at the end of this post!

Since my kids are so pumped, I’m going to up the ante on our Friday movie night tradition and break out a special snack.

I’m calling them Buster’s Moon Pie Muddy Buddies, in honor of our favorite koala/theater owner/musical visionary, Buster Moon, and my favorite chocolate marshmallow combo.

And since I don’t want my kids to start the movie without me, this snack has to come together quick.

Easy enough!

  • 8 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 2 cups Golden Grahams cereal
  • 2 cups mini marshmallows
  • 1 ¾ cups chocolate chips
  • ⅔ cup peanut butter
  • ⅓ cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  1. Combine Rice Chex, Golden Grahams cereal, and mini marshmallows in a large bowl and set aside.
  2. In a microwave safe bowl, combine 1 ¼ cups chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter. Microwave for 1 minute and then stir until it is nice and smooth. (Microwave 15-30 seconds longer if needed to get a smooth consistency.)
  3. Stir in vanilla.
  4. Pour mixture over cereal and marshmallows, stirring to coat.
  5. You’ll have to do the next steps in two batches…
  6. Place half of the mixture in a gallon Ziploc bag with 1 cup of powdered sugar.
  7. Toss bag to coat mixture with powdered sugar.
  8. Remove coated muddy buddies from the bag, and repeat steps 6 and 7 with the remaining mixture.
  9. Allow mixture to cool. Or eat immediately with both hands.

We’re giving you a chance to win a copy of the SING Special Edition Blu-ray (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD) for your home theater collection! To enter, just leave a comment below. Say “hello” and we’ll pick one random comment as the winner on Friday, March 31st at 5:00 PM.

Get SING in Digital HD for Family Movie Night

This post is in partnership with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment

I’ve got great news for your “Friday night what to watch that the whole family will agree on without someone ending up in tears because they don’t like that movie and they never get to pick” dilemma—SING in Digital HD is available now!

SING in Digital HD Sequined Pig

If you ask me, a diva pig in a sequined jumpsuit singing the hits of Lady Gaga is reason enough to get this movie. If you need something more compelling, how about the fact that when you purchase SING in Digital HD on VUDU, you’ll get 3 all-new mini-movies and so many extras? It really is the most dynamic way to watch the year’s biggest animated musical hit.

Using VUDU is pretty simple. You can purchase SING in Digital HD at VUDU.com or on their app. Vudu is easy to use and the app is on your favorite devices (Smart TVs, Blu-ray players, streaming devices [i.e. Roku], and both Android and Apple mobile devices). So that also means you can start a movie on your TV and finish it on your tablet!

The Vudu mobile app is also a great way for kids to watch SING on their own. It lets them tap and swipe their way across the most robust set of interactive bonus content available, including the “SING Interactive Experience,” featuring a carousel of the film’s iconic characters loaded with animation galleries, profiles, cast voice over sessions and more.

If you missed catching SING in the theaters, you’re in for a treat! It was made by Illumination Entertainment, the same studio that made THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS. The basic premise of the film is that all of us have something within us that we can share with others.SING in Digital HD castSING stars Matthew McConaughey as Buster Moon, an eternally optimistic koala who puts on the world’s greatest singing competition to save his crumbling theater; winner Reese Witherspoon as Rosita, an overworked and underappreciated mother of 25 piglets desperate to unleash her inner diva; Scarlett Johansson as Ash, a punk rock porcupine with a beautiful voice behind her prickly exterior; and Taron Egerton as Johnny, a young gangster gorilla looking to break free of his family’s felonies. But in my opinion, the best part of this movie is the likelihood that at some point you’ll end up with a family dance party on your hands while you watch. Movie night and a dance party? I can’t think of anything better.

Rock Dog Movie Premiere and a Giveaway

This post is sponsored by Lionsgate.

A few years ago my nephew visited and asked where I kept my dog. I told him I didn’t have one, and he quickly let me know I was wasting my adulthood. I think he was onto something, but until I move out of my “no dogs allowed” apartment building in Manhattan, I have to get my puppy fix (not to be confused with “puppy fixed,” because those are two VERY different things) elsewhere.

That’s why I’m looking forward to the February 24th release of Rock Dog. It’s a movie about a Tibetan Mastiff who finds a radio and leaves home to fulfill his dream of becoming a musician, but quickly sets in motion a series of unexpected events.

I’m such a sucker for movies that encourage kids to chase their dreams! Today’s Mama wants you to chase your dreams all the way to the theater. That’s why we’re giving away a Rock Dog movie prize pack that includes a $100 Visa gift card to see the film in theaters with your family, as well as a Rock Dog beanie, tambourine, and temporary tattoo.

Rock Dog Movie Giveaway

You’re sure to recognize and love the Rock Dog movie cast. Luke Wilson takes the lead, with Eddie Izzard, J.K. Simmons, Lewis Black, Kenan Thompson, Mae Whitman, Jorge Garcia, Matt Dillon, and Sam Elliott all lending their voices. I can’t wait to see them do their thing on the big screen on February 24th!

The SING Special Edition is Coming to Digital, DVD, and Blu-Ray in March

This post is in partnership with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment

If you and your kids loved watching SING in the theaters, then prepare yourself to get super excited for what I’m about to say. Are you ready? Ok, here goes . . . THE SING SPECIAL EDITION IS COMING OUT ON DIGITAL HD ON MARCH 3rd AND ON BLU-RAY AND DVD ON MARCH 21st!!!!!!!

SING Special Edition Digital, DVD, and Blu-Ray Release

I’m sorry, was I yelling? I’m kind of excited. Did you catch how I said “SING Special Edition?” Yeah, this isn’t just the same thing you saw on the big screen cut comin’ at ya. The special edition of this music-filled comedy will include over 60-minutes of bonus content and will incorporate three (YEAH, I SAID 3!) all-new entertaining mini movies featuring the cast from SING as well as an exclusive Tori Kelly music video and a variety of musical extras. That’s almost enough bonus content to equal a whole new movie in and of itself.

Before I get too carried away, I’ll tell you why we loved SING. I feel like the new trend in animated movies is to make them entertaining for both adults and kids. The Illumination studio made SING. That’s the same studio that brought us The Secret Life of Pets and the Despicable Me franchise. They’ve already proven they have the chops to be popular with kids (uh, seen a Minion anywhere lately?) and they’re quickly becoming a grown up favorite too. This movie was a Golden Globe nominee for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song. You’ll totally recognize ans sing along to the more than 65 hit songs in this movie, and you’ll love ‘Faith,’ a brand new song by the legendary Stevie Wonder (featuring Ariana Grande). He hasn’t made a song for a major film release in 25 years!

Check out this SING Special Edition trailer:

If that doesn’t make you laugh, then you should probably watch it again with your eyes open. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a movie that has as many A-list actors and artists. SING is truly a wonderful, funny, heartwarming film with great music and a fantastic cast. It stars Academy Award® winner† Matthew McConaughey as Buster Moon, an eternally optimistic koala who puts on the world’s greatest singing competition to save his crumbling theater; Academy Award® winner Reese Witherspoon as Rosita, an overworked and unappreciated mother of 25 piglets desperate to unleash her inner diva; Scarlett Johansson as Ash, a punk rock porcupine with a beautiful voice behind her prickly exterior; Taron Egerton as Johnny, a young gangster gorilla looking to break free of his family’s felonies; as well as Seth MacFarlane, John C. Reilly, and Grammy Award-nominated Tori Kelly.

Basically, SING takes all the best parts of a reality T.V. show—the stories of people uh, I mean, animals down on their luck, the crazy talented ones who don’t have any self-confidence, those trying to live up to their true selves, and those trying to rise above their surroundings—it subtracts the super drama, tears, and rose ceremonies, but leaves in a few crazies and a diva, just to keep things interesting.

We loved SING at our house, and can’t wait for the SING Special Edition to release. It may just be the musical comedy event of the year!

The New Beauty and the Beast Movie is Coming March 17th!

Is it too soon to put up my paper chain countdown to March 17? I don’t usually get overly excited about St. Patrick’s Day, but this year, the holiday falls on the same day as the release of the new Beauty and the Beast movie. So naturally, I’m pumped. You know, in an age appropriate, not weird that I’m an adult totally jazzed about a fairy tale movie, kind of way. (That was convincing, right?)

New Beauty and the Beast Movie Still

To add fuel to the fire, Disney just released it’s third and final trailer for the movie. (You can’t hear me squealing through the computer, can you? No? Good, because I totally wasn’t.) In case you haven’t seen it, or if you just want to watch it again—and again, and again—here it is:

And here are the other trailers for the movie:

Now if I can just figure out a way for time to move faster.

DOWNLOAD ALERT: The Secret Life of Pets

Hitting the road for Thanksgiving? Heading over to a packed house to wrestle over pie? Just realized that the kiddos are off of school for FIVE DAYS?

Why does this surprise me every year?

I blame the monumental meal planning. I’ve been wringing my hands, trying to figure out the optimum time in the next 24 hours to brave the store to buy kale. KALE. So much so that yesterday evening at dinner, when my kids gleefully proclaimed their unbridled joy about having five days off that I realized, “WHOA. I have to entertain you while I cook all the things!”

No worries. My entire dining room floor is currently covered in Lincoln Logs. I’m sure that’ll hold them for at least 2 days. Unless they start sword fighting— Lincoln Log against a lightsaber—AGAIN.

Since we will be shuttling ourselves around a little bit, I’m going to go ahead and make sure our movie collection on the ol’ iPad is looking good. To add to the excitement, I’m going to grab a new one for them…the movie that they begged, and begged, and BEGGED to see this summer, The Secret Life of Pets.

It’s available TODAY to own on Digital HD!

Download your copy today from iTunes (also available on Google Play, Amazon Video, and more). It’s the only way the whole family can watch The Secret Life of Pets over the Thanksgiving holiday. And don’t forget, Digital HD allows you to watch the film on any device, anytime anywhere.

The download also comes with three hilarious mini-movies: the all-new Norman Television and Weenie PLUS Mower Minions.

Check out a clip from Mower Minions below:

Full bellies and cuddles on the couch. Now, that’s what I call a happy holiday…

Save The Date: The Secret Life of Pets is Coming Soon!

As a houseful of dog-lovers, few summer blockbusters were as highly anticipated around here as The Secret Life of Pets. And by “highly anticipated” I mean that there was NO WAY my kiddos were going to let me fast-forward through the commercials for that flicke. Ever. Never ever.

So you can be SURE that we’ll be buying the movie when it comes to Blu-ray & DVD on December 6, 2016 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (and saving it for under the Christmas tree!) If you’re a Digital HD kinda family, you’ll get a crack at it earlier, on November 22, 2016.

So, if you’re like me and are already working on your holiday gift lists and/or planning your Thanksgiving weekend viewing, you’re going to want to take note of those dates above.

The Blu-Ray and DVD also includes three mini movies that you’re kiddos are sure to love—Norman Television, Weenie, and Mower Minions.

Plus, TONS of bonus features like The Best of Snowball (think rapid-fire, fun and oddly musical mash-up of all the best Snowball one-liners) and the Hot Dog Sing-Along (for the song-lovers in your family, Max and Duke sing for their supper in the sausage factory!) There’s even a section that’s all about pets with Kevin Hart and Eric Stonestreet, with the help of animal trainer Molly Mignon O’Neill where you’ll learn more about your average and not-so average, household pets.

Open Season Movie 3-Pack and $100 Giveaway

We take our weekend movie screenings VERY seriously around here. Popcorn must be popped. Hot cocoa must be prepared. Blankets, pillows, blankie (not to be confused with a blanket…one is for warmth, one is to cuddle), dogs, dolls…all piled on the couch to watch a movie as a family.

Best Sunday afternoon that a mom could ask for, if you ask me.

If you’re a movie lover like me, I’ve got a giveaway that you’re going to LOVE.

To celebrate the release of OPEN SEASON: SCARED SILLY (available Tuesday, March 8th via Walmart or Amazon) we’re giving away a prize pack that includes….

DVD Editions of Open Season 1, 2, and 3 (All three movies!)

$100 Visa Gift Card to kick off your next family adventure! (Or to fund an EPIC stockpile of movie watching snacks. You do you.)

To enter to win, leave a comment below with the name of your favorite Open Season character. (You can brush up on the whole Open Season family here.)

We’ll pick one random winner on Monday, March 21st. (So make sure you comment with an email address you check often.) Good luck!

Give a Holiday Movie Memory

This post is sponsored by Fox Home Entertainment.

I’m working hard at instilling a favorite holiday tradition of mine with my kiddos…packing in as many holiday movies as we can between Black Friday and Christmas Day. There is nothing better than popping popcorn, making hot cocoa, and watching our favorite holiday movies together.

Now, I’m not going to lie, we pop more than our fair share of popcorn for a movie marathon throughout the year, but there is something so special about the flicks that we only watch during the holidays. This year, my girl is old enough to enjoy one of my favorite holiday films, Miracle on 34th Street.

This movie was given to me as a gift when I was a teenager by a treasured family friend. She told me how much she loved the original and that I would love the remake (1994 version.) She was right and Miracle on 34th Street is on our “must watch” list.

Miracle34_1994_ Still1

I wanted to pass that feeling on to another family.

One of the twists that I’ve used in recent years is giving a Christmas gift before the 25th rolls around. Some gifts are too wonderful and too full of holiday spirit to wait that long to give (and enjoy!)

So I put this “Merry Family Movie Night” gift basket together.

Give a Holiday Movie Memory

It includes:

  • A Big Bag of Popcorn
  • Peppermint Sandwich Cookies
  • Peppermint Hot Cocoa
  • Mini Marshmallows
  • Candy Cane Taffy

PLUS — and here’s the best part — a note inviting them to check their email to download their Digital HD copy of Miracle on 34th Street.

Did you know you could GIVE people your favorite holiday movie via iTunes? It’s crazy-easy

Just go to iTunes, search for your favorite Fox Christmas movie and under the “BUY” dropdown menu select “Gift This Movie”.

Screen Shot 2015-12-05 at 8.45.45 PM

Follow the prompts, including sending the gifted download to your recipient’s email address.

Drop off this basket o’ merriment and you’ve given them an INSTANT Christmas movie experience that is sure to land on their holiday highlight reel.

Give a Holiday Movie Memory

I love the ease of downloading Digital HD movies right at home, and making it easy to keep building our holiday movie library. I’ve been known to wrap gifts and bake cookies into the wee hours with my favorite holiday movies playing on my iPad propped on my kitchen counter.

Download Miracle on 34th Street or any of your other favorite Fox Christmas movies on iTunes today and watch them instantly with your family! I’m sure you’ll love it as much as we do!
