Mark Your Calendar—New Flavors are Coming to Culver’s!

Don’t miss the giveaway at the end of this post!

The weather is warming up which means I’ll be looking for literally ANY reason to treat myself and the kiddos to something cold, creamy, and delicious.

But not just any frozen treat will do…

Frozen custard is OUR JAM. So imagine our delight upon learning that our favorite frozen custard spot—Culver’s—is releasing new Flavor of the Day recipes!

What is this “Flavor of the Day” you speak of?
Every day, in every Culver’s restaurant (all 650+) they combine farm fresh milk and pasteurized eggs to make small batches of the creamiest fresh frozen custard. You’ll find vanilla and chocolate fresh frozen custard, along with a “Flavor of the Day” — and brace yourself because Culver’s is adding not one, not two, but SIX new recipes to their “Flavor of the Day” lineup.

And I tried all six!

And believe me when I tell you that you are going to want to mark your calendar for the 10th of every month through October, so that you can try them too.

I’ll wait while you add the recurring event to your calendar…list the event as “GO EAT LIFE CHANGING FROZEN CUSTARD AT CULVERS.”

Normally, each Culver’s restaurant gets to pick their own daily Flavor of the Day from the list of “official” flavors. But to celebrate these six new flavors, every Culver’s restaurant is serving the same new Flavor of the Day!

Cappuccino Cookie Crumble — May 10th
Vanilla fresh frozen custard blended with espresso, crushed sugar cookies, and swirls of novelty chocolate. AMAZING. The combination of the sugar cookies and the espresso frozen custard is so good! I’m thrilled this is the first flavor Culver’s is releasing. Because I need it. NOW. How early in the day is “too early” for frozen custard?

Blackberry Cobbler — June 10th
Vanilla fresh frozen custard, cinnamon granola crumble and blackberries. This flavor is bright and fresh and tastes like summer in a cup! The granola crumble is delicious, cinnamon-y, and crunchy and is such a great balance to the berries. Fruit lovers—you’re going to want to get your hands on this one.

Chocolate Pretzel Crunch — July 10th
Vanilla fresh frozen custard, chopped Bavarian pretzels, novelty chocolate and salted caramel. These aren’t just any old pretzels. Bavarian sourdough pretzels are sturdy and crunchy and were pretty much made to be combined with chocolate and salted caramel and frozen custard. Whatever you know about chocolate covered pretzels, put that aside because you haven’t LIVED until you’ve had this flavor!

Peanut Butter Cookie Dough — August 10th
Peanut Butter fresh frozen custard with roasted peanuts and chunks of chocolate chip cookie dough. It’s tough to improve upon actual peanut butter, but they did it with Peanut Butter frozen custard. Seriously. Give it to me by the bucket. Plus cookie dough and roasted peanuts!

Dark Chocolate Decadence — September 10th
A blend of premium cocoas to create the first dark chocolate flavored frozen custard on the Culver’s menu. Part of the Culver’s magic is that their frozen custard is creamier and more flavorful than ice cream, which means that all of Culver’s history has been leading to THIS MOMENT. This dark chocolate frozen custard was silky and rick and mind blowing. Do not miss this flavor!

Peanut Butter Salted Caramel — October 10th
Peanut Butter fresh frozen custard with roasted peanuts and ribbons of salted caramel. Culver’s has taken two classic favorites (peanut butter and salted caramel) into one delicious flavor! This blend of sweet and salty has so many tasty layers to it—it’s truly one for the peanut butter fans!

Six cups of Culver’s frozen custard in one day…it was pretty much all of my dreams come true.

And we’re giving away 10 free scoops of Culver’s frozen custard! To enter to win, just leave a comment telling me which new Flavor of the Day recipe you’re most excited to try!

Last day to enter is Friday, May 18th! Good luck!

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Culver’s. The opinions and text are all mine.

Cake Mix Cadbury Mini Egg Cookies Recipe

When I’m cruising through the grocery store and I see Cadbury Mini Eggs for the first time on the shelves, it’s like a record scratch. When I saw them, I thought, WE MUST make Cake Mix Cadbury Mini Egg Cookies! As impossible as it may seem to improve upon the crispy shelled magic of a Cadbury Mini Egg, I found that adding them to a cake mix cookie was a buttery, delicious way of prolonging my enjoyment of this seasonal treat. Because, if motivated (or left unsupervised,) I can power through an entire bag of Cadbury Mini Eggs in under a day, but would consider wolfing down a whole batch of cookies pretty challenging.

Challenging, not impossible.

Cadbury Mini Egg Cake Mix Cookies — White Chocolate Version!

Cadbury Mini Eggs have hit store shelves! THIS IS NOT A DRILL. It’s time to make the most of those chocolatey jewels and whip up Cadbury Mini Egg Chocolate Cookies. We were first inspired to create a blonde and buttery version of this cookie with regular milk chocolate Cadbury Mini Eggs which you can find here, but never one to be creatively limited in the kitchen, I saw fit to toss a few bags of the WHITE chocolate Cadbury Mini Eggs into my basket to see if my suspicions were true…that a chocolate cake mix cookie and a white chocolate egg could come together for sweet Easter bliss. I WAS RIGHT!

Cadbury Mini Egg Chocolate Cookies have made all of my dreams come true.

Science Says: Have Your Cake And…Fiber, Too.

Remember the good old days when a well-rounded diet consisted of meat, potatoes, bread slathered in butter, the occasional veggie, and a beautiful display-worthy cake every night for dessert? (Wait, was this the 1950s or a dream I had the other night…? Really hard to tell.)

Either way, those dreams have been crushed as every diet in the book has risen to the surface over the years, each preaching a contradictory message to the last:

No meat! All meat! No starch! No carbs! Aaaaaaaall the carbs! No fat! All fat! How could anyone make sense of all the options?

Thankfully, science is now telling us that we are free to have our cake, as long as we have some fiber, too.

Recent research done by the University of Georgia tells us that in tests conducted where each group was fed either a high-fiber diet, a high-fat diet, or a high-fat diet supplemented with fiber, the latter didn’t come out looking half bad. While the high-fiber diet group came out of the study with the best overall gut health, those that ate the high-fat diet supplemented with fiber had less weight gain and obesity than the solely high-fat dieters. The fiber supplements also helped decrease the size of fat cells, regulate blood sugar, and lower cholesterol.

I bet those bran flakes aren’t looking too bad right about now!

So, it looks like we can put the diet battle to rest at last as moderation in all things is probably our best bet. Especially since I am now justified in finishing off the ice cream tonight because I had a bowl of ultra-fibrous peas at dinner. Win.

Cultivating Gratitude For Your Body

Here’s What Your Food Cravings Are REALLY Trying To Tell You

Three Foods You Should Stop Eating Immediately

Super Bowl Party Ideas

Every year our family throws a big Super Bowl party.  To be honest, I like sports but I’m not much of a sports fan. However, I do like parties! With 4 crazy-hyper kids that need to be included, I spend a lot of time thinking about food, games and fun.  Here are my favorite Super Bowl party ideas to keep the sports-lovers, haters and littles involved and happy during your big Super Bowl party.

SUPER BOWL BINGO

Bingo is a MUST! We keep kid and adult prizes for the first one to call out Bingo. This is anything from a special drink, candy, or a dollar-store toy.

SheKnows has put together a fabulous set of Bingo cards. Visit their site HERE then click on each card to print. It’s important to print each card to have variety for the Bingo cards. Print on cardstock to make stronger cards.

SUPER BOWL ‘GET UP AND MOVE’ GAMES

Just because the Super Bowl party is where you sit and watch TV doesn’t mean you can’t do anything else. We like to keep things moving for those that get tired of sitting (or the game, wink-wink), as well as the goo-gobs of kids we have running around.

This game is named FACE GOAL!

You’ll need two players and mini stuffed footballs (I’m not opposed to using marshmallows either). Have one player stand about 10 yards away from the other player and give them a bucket of small footballs. The second player will stand with their hands upright in field goal/touchdown position. To play, the first player must hike footballs (like hiking a football) underneath their legs into the the field goal of the other person, without hitting them in the face. The footballs only count if they go through the player’s arms, not above or around them. First team to hike 7 footballs through the field goal wins.

SUPER BOWL PREDICTION GAME

31 questions of guessing fun! Winner is the person with the most correct answers! Make it a little more fun by asking guests to bring $1 for their card — winner takes the pool!

SUPER BOWL COMMERCIAL BINGO

We make a hard rule in our house that no Super Bowl commercials can be watched BEFORE the game. What’s the fun in that?! This makes commercial bingo even more exciting on game day.

PERSONAL VEGGIE AND DIP CUPS

I have done personal veggie and dip cups the past few years and love them. These keep little hands out of the community dunking bowl (let’s be honest–where have their hands been?!).  It also creates less stress for those that just can’t take double-dippers and let’s ranch lovers bask in the joy of their own ranch (add more if you want!)

FOOTBALL BROWNIES

I love to have something that the kids can help me with. They really like getting involved in all the decorating ahead of time, but I also try to find an easy “thing” they can do while all the adults are mingling. We have loved creating football brownies. These are pretty easy because all you need is a football shaped cookie cutter! Make your brownies ahead of time and cut the shapes out (or let the kids do this part if they can). Buy pre-made frosting in tubes and let the kids decorate as footballs!

Easy Chocolate Peppermint Cake Mix Cookies

Through the fall I love pumpkin and as soon as Thanksgiving is over, it’s time for peppermint.  These easy chocolate peppermint cake mix cookies are quick to make and sure to be a hit at your next holiday party!  The addition of cream cheese to the batter adds a buttery flavor and makes them soft and fluffy-my favorite kind of cookie.

As I was making these I was thinking about WHY we like peppermint so much around Christmas?  A quick google search helped me find the following:

“The candy cane itself can be traced back to a German church. Several centuries ago, people used sugar sticks to pacify crying babies. Suzetta Tucker of ChristStory Christian Bestiary writes that, “Before the invention of the modern pacifier, parents used to give their babies unflavored white sugar sticks to suck on.”  Then, Tucker goes on to explain a German choirmaster in the 1670’s bent the canes into a shepherd’s staff and “passed out to children attending the Christmas services.”  The custom quickly spread throughout Europe and people started decorating the canes, surprisingly without the guidance of Pinterest. Then, Tucker writes, around 1900 the canes received red stripes and peppermint flavoring, but she’s not sure exactly where or why. According to Google, no one else is really sure either.”

So there you have it!  Of course crying babies lead to the invention of candy canes!

Because a few of these ingredients can be tricky.  Always be sure to keep your melting chocolate fairly warm while working to prevent stickyness or clumping and move fast when dipping in the red sugar!

You’ll notice that some of these are nutter butters and some of these are milano cookies.  They both turn out darling, so I would just go with whichever is your favorite!  Be sure to tap off some of the extra white chocolate before dipping in the red sugar to prevent too much sliding.
